AISI W2
W2 is a water-hardening tool steel that produces a finer grain size, greater uniformity, and higher toughness than other types of water-hardening tool steels. Its popularity is attributed to ready availability, low cost, excellent machinability, suitability for short run tooling and, perhaps of most importance, its shallow hardenability or depth of hardening.
The Importance of close hardenability control availability in W2 cannot be over emphasized.
